"You can't make jokes anymore"

This suppression of freedom of speech must stop. How else will our generation produce a Wilde, or a Dorothy Parker, or a P.G Wodehouse?

(Helen links to it too, but read this)

The next thing you know, insulting Bengalis will be forbidden.

Oh, so no more sheep shagging jokes then?
How about general stupidity or breeders? Religion out of bounds too? Surely not the jokes about how cheap the dutch are!?
I was also rather fond of making fun of myself. Oh well! ;)

Aadisht - Insulting Bengalis will never be inappropriate. (Unless, I'm told, one works in publishing)

Lytse - I think Kai's post is a pretty good guide. Sheep shagging is acceptable, so is self-mockery. Breeders...not so funny, though as a non-breeder I do feel like an oppressed minority (and it's going to get so much worse if/when I marry)

I'm sure the ALF would object to the sheep shagging jokes as a violation of sheep rights though!

the non-breeder thing is odd, some people freak out when they find out I had my tubes tied. It amuses me so very much. ;)
(don't even get me started on marriage, wrote a whole ranty post about that months ago!)

I read the (wonderfully written) post, politics makes my blood pressure rise, so I try to make stupid jokes. gah.

Most importantly, how will we ever appreciate Russell Peters and his racist, stereotyped jokes? ;)
