I am all for the right to offend in a civilised society. I am against the right to offend officially when in a position of power. As we keep getting cruelly reminded, the courts aren't there to provide justice, they are there to enforce the law.
I thought only the Indian courts were this bad, but scum appear to be everywhere.
Was just reading Janedoenomore.org and the trauma of having to face law enforcement and the grueling questions.Can't help wondering how even though only 5% of the times that false accusations happen but how come the voices that talk abt the false accusations get so loud and drown out the remaining 95%? I guess Sheilagh Davies thought best to act as a lawyer first and a woman next!

vidya - Considering the huge number of (real) rapes that go unreported, I wouldn't be surprised if the number of false rapes was far less than 5% even. I know I wouldn't report it if I were raped.
Hey, I refuse to be slotted into a box. I am not a feminist. I prefer to be called an equal opportunist, regardless of species, gender, sexuality or anything else.
All that it takes for evil to win is for the good people to do nothing. I refuse to let that happen.
Oh, and remember to report rape if it happens. Remember that every unreported rape is a pat on the back for the people in power who think they are doing a good job if the statistics say so.
If a woman who is sexually active is raped, then she must 'have enjoyed it' because the whore has had sex before anyway.
If a woman who isn't sexually active is raped then 'she must have enjoyed it' also, because she must have been 'repressed' and 'frustrated'.

Wow! I cannot believe stuff like this actually happens. And I'm a law student! But really our legal system screws up all the time. It has put in so many "safeguards" in place to "protect" women, and most of them are severely opposed to the very concept of feminism. And then they do stuff like this. I think I'm going to throw up.
And for god's sake, if you're going to link me, link my blogspot blog. The msn one has all but ceased to exist.

i kno i'm postin after a year this post ws published bt i came across it just a few day's back..
i, myself am a rape victim. The one who raped me ws supposedly a friend of mine n we used to watch muvs late into the night, with a bunch of other ppl at my flat regularly. once he turned up at my place sayin he needs to talk to my friend. since she ws nt home n wud be back in an hour or so, i asked him to leave. he said he wud rather wait coz going back home n then coming back wud make things hectic for him. I left him in our front room and went in to iron my clothes, which i ws doing earlier. suddenly i felt his hands on my shoulders, i tried to shrug him off bt he held on to me n then raped me. shouting or nething ws nt helping coz on our floor there were no other occupied flats. felt really helpless. when i went to police station the next day, the policeman told me to forget abt it since he being my friend n everything i wont be able to proove it n refused to write complaint... this is hw we r being treated in this stupid system of ours...
